It’s true that tampons do contain harmful chemicals for our bodies. Most women are unaware of what’s going into their tampons. All regularly marketed tampons contain bleached cotton, rayon, and dioxin. This includes playtex tampons, ob tampons, and kotex. One of the chemicals called dioxin is potentionally carcinogenic. Many women are unaware that rayon and rayon-cotton blends are widely used in the manufacture of tampons. Rayon is commonly chlorine-bleached, and is a highly absorbent fibre. Dioxin, a toxic carcinogen, is a by-product of all chlorine bleaching methods and is also found throughout the environment in varying levels as a by-product of pesticide spraying and pollution from incinerators. Dioxin has been found to be an accumulative chemical, meaning the more you use it the more it collects in the fatty tissues of your body. This is a huge concern for women. Published scientific reports have shown that evidence is growing that even low levels of dioxins may be linked to cancer, endometriosis, low sperm counts and immune system suppression. Considering a woman may use as many as 11,000 tampons in her lifetime, she may be subjecting herself to extremely high levels of this dangerous chemical.
I use 100% organic tampons and panty liners they can be purchased from the natural isle in most supermarkets.
DID YOU KNOW…If every woman of reproductive age replaced one package of 12 ct. Regular conventional rayon/cotton blend tampons with organic cotton tampons, we could prevent 20,000 lbs of pesticidesfrom entering our environment and polluting our rivers, lakes and streams.
